We had fun this evening! Tammy ran an entertaining table topics session that really challenged our creativity. We welcomed a new member tonight – Tanya Lucia, a recent grad from the University of Guelph. We will really be looking forward to Tanya’s Ice Breaker speech next week!

The energy was great at last Wednesday’s meeting! We gave a hearty Toastmaster’s welcome to not one, but two honoured guests; John MacDonald, Lt. Governor of Marketing from District 86, who came all the way to Acton on Stanley Cup championship game night, to rally us in our march towards charter status AND brand new Acton Orators Toastmaster, Tammy Kudlik, a local Georgetown realtor, who shared with us a bit about herself and her goals, participated in table topics and, most importantly, joined our swelling ranks!
Just a reminder that we meet again on Wednesday June 22nd and then every other week for July & August – “open door” policy – guests are always welcomed.

I came across this article on LinkedIn today. It ties in with “the elevator speech” and “promoting your club” and speaks to the very heart and soul of the Toastmasters program. We all need to talk more! Our tongues are loosely hinged to that back-thingy-thing in our throats and we need to let them do what they’re designed to do – flagellate with abandon in the interests of communication and engagement. As Hank advises, “To get really good at something you have to do it repeatedly.” So, Toastmasters, don’t wait for a manual speech to practice your speaking skills; use them everyday – Con Brio as a Toastmaster “Maestro” would say. Wherever you are, try to leave your mark; disturb the air and make an impression on people; if you go through life without creating a ripple then you are only a ghost…
